The head-turning Game of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie is a towering 6ft 3in tall and admits she often felt she couldn’t relate to women on the big screen because of her Amazonian frame, but is now relishing the opportunity to play a tough, fierce warrior in the medieval fantasy drama.

She said: “It’s really vitally important to me the way women are portrayed. As someone who has always felt at times pretty genderless because of my size, it interests me to challenge ideas of prejudice and femininity, and what it is to be a woman.”

The towering actress reveals that she had numerous setbacks in her career before landing a prized role as Brienne of Tarth in the hit show, adding: “I found it so frustrating, particularly at the beginning, because I would be told, ‘Sorry love, you’re too tall.’ At one stage I was like, ‘I’ll give this another six months and if this persists, ‘I’ll become a nun.’ “

For her role as warrior Brienne, Gwendoline trained how to fight with swords and ride horses and says it’s “empowering” to know she can “break a man’s nose with my elbow.”

"I do all my own stunts and come away with bruises and scratches. After one scene I was absolutely covered in bruises all down one leg and up one arm. But it’s worth it. It’s quite fun. I enjoy knocking around with the boys."

I cannot get enough of this woman. She deserves all the awards.

The Devil Wears Prada (2006), dir. David Frankel.

"You have no idea how many legends have walked these halls. And what’s worse, you don’t care. Because this place, where so many people would die to work you only deign to work. And you want to know why she doesn’t kiss you on the forehead and give you a gold star on your homework at the end of the day. Wake up, sweetheart."

and let’s not pretend the lack of respect so many people have for musicals and how large the female and queer fanbase for musicals are is merely a coincidence

Important Eclipse PSA

astrophobe:

many people know that it is very dangerous to look directly at a solar eclipse, but fewer people realize that it is just as dangerous to stare at an eclipse of the moon! When the moon is eclipsed you will watch your guidepost vanish, removing your only point of reference in the infinity of space. Without that anchor in the universal night there will be nothing between you and the endless depths of space, and in that moment you will understand that there are only incomparably tiny and distant oases in the unimaginable infinity of the cosmos. We are not protected nor are we plentiful; our home is 10^27 kilograms out of the entirety of endless space. We are a temporary tribe, a mingy clan of hominids clutching to that minuscule rock which we call home. When you look out into the universe and only the smallest twinkling of tiny stars looks back, you will once and forever understand that We Are All Agency — all actions, thoughts and motives belonged to people just like you with childhoods and friends and worries and anxieties and memories bound up in a couple hundred cubic centimeters of flesh and water in a portion of the universe so insignificantly small it might just as well never have existed. If you look out too long into that unfathomable darkness, you will understand that human life is here, and only here, that this impossibly limited region in space’s gross expanse is the only human home, and you will realize that every human killed was a being so rare that in 100,000,000 galaxies you would never find another. Do not stare too long at the eclipse. Once you have watched the vastness and the emptiness of space you will never again be callous about the tremendous fullness of your home
